The Youth and Misconceptions about HIV/AIDS

In terms of its prevalence; HIV is not specific to a particular religion, race or ethnical grouping. It is a well known fact that all human beings are prone to the virus and the only way out is to avoid getting infected through preventative measures against the virus.   It affects people of all sexes, ages and the virus does not care about a person’s socioeconomic status.

The Youth are no exception and in fact, due to a certain curious nature that is usually associated with youth-hood puts them at a higher risk than other age groups. This is the case and some quarters in our society feel the youth are under served and an unheard group.

The Youth are rarely heard and this is a pity because what's on their mind is very important as nobody can easily guess what the youth think, observe or need. In order to fully understand and to meet their HIV prevention needs, we need to listen to their voices. The Youth have a number of concerns on the issues pertaining to HIV/AIDS and they also have a lot of myths and misconceptions.

Study findings on Youth Sex Dynamics and Behavior revealed that 10 ladies who visited chemists, only one condom was bought against nine pills on Friday evenings and Saturdays. This simply shows that they are afraid of pregnancy more than AIDS!

We need to clear up all misconceptions, deliver our prevention messages in ways which should challenge the youth and most importantly there is need to listen and address their concerns.

Wishing you all a happy new year!!!!

Stay safe!!!!

I also find it disastrous to see that ladies are very uncomfortable to buy a male condom for the fear of being viewed as a prostitute..its time we reflect carefully on our future and make bold decisions that save our free but once lived lives...

I urge condoms makers to also try to make condoms of different flavours so that the youth can be attracted to them than the currently ones on the market. One should have the appetite of using condom simply by looking at the cover, in this way, both boys and ladies will be tempted to buy! this discussion on condom use should continue...it forms the basis of understanding sex and safe sex!

Its high time we ladies we realised that sex before marriage needs to be practiced safely. This calls for constant use of condoms if some of us cannot abstain. I like Rose's comment; its valid and interesting.

felistus i agree with you, most youth in rural areas don't have access to condoms and there are many misconceptions about condoms in these rural areas.so the youth in rural areas have to be considered.we who stay in urban areas know a lot of things through different social networks unlike those in rural areas who don't know anything about social networks.

Laurynie u know this guys they dont even know that there free condoms, imagine the youth in the remote areas are failing to have money to buy laundry soap and most definetly they can't think of buying a condom. Government and YONECO needs to consider this kind of benefits to the youths in the rural areas.

Let me join you Faith and the rest of you guys in this enlightening issue.
It really seems that there is need to enhance the efforts of reaching the rural youth with sexual reproductive services more especially especially with condoms.

I would like to share with you one good news that during the month of December in the just ended year, YONECO trained Community Based Condom Distribution Agents (CBDAs) from four T/As in the districts of Ntcheu, Balaka, Zomba and Machinga.

You can read more of this story by visiting YONECO Website or Facebook page through the following links:

I deemed it important to let the world know about a man who cured me of HIV/AIDS, he is Dr. Iyabiye, and I never take it seriously when I first saw his recommendation online. I reached out to him not because I believed it but because my finances was running dry for buying HIV/aids Antiretroviral drugs to slow down the viral load all the time. But behold I got cured after the treatment. I went for checkup just as the doctor instructed and I was tested negative. Here are his contacts if anyone wish to reach him for help: +234-815-857-7300, iyabiyehealinghome@gmail.com

I saw Liah's comment about Dr Iyabiye’s medication concerning HIV/aids. I tried it and it worked perfectly. It was like hell living with HIV/aids all this years until now, no more pains, weakness, and no more buying of anti-viral drug everyday to slow down the viral load. I would've come to testify before now but I have to wait for a couple of months to see if it will come back or feel pain as usual, I also went to the hospital for test and i was tested negative. All thanks to Dr. Iyabiye and to you Liah for spreading the good news. Doctor's contact: iyabiyehealinghome@gmail.com +234-815-857-7300
